West Marine Raises $40K For Kids

15 April 2019 By Laura Dunn

West Marine raised more than $40,000 last December for their “Month of Giving.” Thanks to “Give Joy” gift tags being purchased in stores across North America, West Marine associates and customers raised $42,217. This was in support of the retailer’s BlueFuture program, which provides grants each year to community-based organizations across the U.S. that are dedicated to getting young people on and around the water. One hundred percent of the money goes into BlueFuture’s grants, which enables recipients to buy or replace vital equipment, fund scholarships, hire experienced staff, or create new programming.

“As an industry leader, we believe it’s our responsibility to teach new generations the benefits of spending time on the water,” says Laura Barry, West Marine’s director of marketing communications. “Personally, I have fond childhood memories of afternoons spent on a boat with my family and friends. BlueFuture is our way to ensure that tomorrow’s water enthusiasts understand the importance of protecting our waterways and taking the time to make lasting memories with their own families.”

Visit www.westmarine.com/bluefuture, click “grants,” fill out, then submit your application to do your part. Your donations will go towards nonprofit, youth-focused, community-based organizations that teach sailing, powerboating, fishing, or boatbuilding skills.
