This month, Exuma Park Headquarters intercepted a 70-footyacht fishing within Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, a marine protected area,near Warderick Wells Cay.
According to a press release, the park warden and two RoyalBahamas Defence Force Marines boarded the vessel for inspection, confiscatingall fishing apparatus. The vessel and its crew were then escorted via militaryand park patrol craft to Blackpoint, Exuma, where they were handed over to theRoyal Bahamas Police Force for further processing.
The park is managed by the Bahamian National Trust and is astrict no-take zone. The press release states that Bahamian law allows severeconsequences for poaching or fisheries offense, and illegal nature of thisactivity is taken seriously.
