After witnessing the beauty and fragility of the marine environment during her yachting career, Freelance Stew Alicja Krzeminska of M/Y Cupani became motivated to take action. While on board a 140-plus-meter yacht, she had the chance to volunteer as an environmental representative for a fleet of seven vessels, which led her to realize the importance of collective effort and the need to unite yachting professionals. So Krzeminska took a break from yachting and got a diploma in environmental science; a year later, in June 2023, she launched One Ocean One Crew, an initiative and app that encourages sustainable practices and raises awareness about conservation.
“One Ocean One Crew stands out as a unique platform because it is the first space specifically designed to connect all yachting professionals: crew, office staff, and shipyards worldwide in the mission of protecting our planet,” Krzeminska says. “Membership is free, and the movement is not connected to any company in the industry.”
The app serves as a hub for people to access resources and educational content, and engage in discussions regarding sustainability in yachting. It’s organized in different sections, including articles, practical tips, a forum, recommendations for reading and viewing, and volunteering opportunities. When members download the app, they can select topics they’re interested in from the main menu.
She hopes that through the platform she can foster knowledge growth, inspire positive action, and build a supportive community and safe space. By joining, members gain access to a network of like-minded individuals who are also passionate about creating a sustainable future for our oceans.
“At One Ocean One Crew, I believe in the power of community and connection,” Krzeminska says. “I have launched a unique platform that serves as a hub for yachting industry professionals to share experiences, join discussions, and participate in challenges related to environmental sustainability.”
Each month, there will be a new challenge that encourages the development of sustainable habits, from joining environmental initiatives to giving back to local communities. In the chat section, users can share their thoughts and progress, and Krzeminska is continuously working on exciting challenges. She also plans to introduce additional features, such as interactive courses and opportunities for collaboration with industry experts and organizations.
Emphasizing the importance of collective action and the power of the yachting industry to drive positive change, she notes that only together can we create powerful changes. “One Ocean One Crew is not just a platform; it is a movement that relies on the participation and dedication of industry professionals,” she says. “Together, we can create a sustainable future for the yachting industry, protect our precious ecosystems, and inspire others to join us on this vital journey.”
