M/Y Fusion Begins to Sink off Ibiza Coast

Photos and video show 37-meter M/Y Fusion sinking off the coast of Ibiza on July 19 around midday. Sheappears to collect water around the stern while the hull seemingly remainsintact above the waterline.

According to local reports, eight guests were on boardduring the incident although no injuries were reported. The crew deployed alife raft for the passengers, who were then reportedly taken safely to a nearbymarina by the Spanish Coast Guard, who arrived to the scene. The captain stayedon board to help keep the vessel afloat with assistance from two crew and fourdivers.

According to reports, the yacht did not sink in the end, andas of Tuesday night, people were still working to keep it afloat in the bay.

Although reports vary, the cause of the incident is not yetknown. It’s been reported that water flooded through the hydraulic door locatedaft of the yacht, which doubles as a swimming platform, causing damage as itreached the main deck. Another report suggests that moorings got wrapped aroundthe propellers, dragging the yacht onto the rocks. However, nothing has beenofficially confirmed. Check back for more information.
