Deadly Fire at Turkish Marina

A yacht fire reportedly broke out around 4:30 a.m. on April10 at Marmaris Yacht Marina in the Mugla province of Turkey, killing one personand destroying three yachts. According to reports, motor yachts White Lady, Cartano, and Passion werecompletely burned, while another yacht suffered severe damages.

Local news source HurriyetDaily News states that the fire spread to another motor yacht and sailingboat within a short period of time. A 63-year-old Turkish man, Ekrem Gokce,died on M/Y Cartano. Turker Demir,who was also on the yacht, was wounded and taken to the hospital.

Witnesses informed the police immediately. It reportedlytook three hours to tamp down the fire, with firefighters taking precautionarymeasures to prevent the flames from spreading to other yachts and the coastguard extinguishing the fire from the sea.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, butreports claim that police suspect arson. According to news agency AndoluAgency, Billy Clark, 34, and Rosie Patricia Glover, 24, were arrested inconnection with the fire.
