Marina Owner Found Dead in St. Lucia Home

British marina owner and manager Robert Hathaway was found dead at his home in Grand Riviere, St. Lucia, by a neighbor on January 13, BBC News reports. A police spokesman in Gros Inlet said investigators were awaiting the outcome of a post-mortem examination and were treating his death as a homicide.

Hathaway founded the Marigot Sunshine marina in 2007 to cater to smaller sailing vessels and superyachts. According to The Guardian, he was a former chairman of the St. Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association and before moving to the Caribbean in 2001, he spent more than 10 years designing yachts after a local government career at London’s Haringey council.

Keats Compton, president of the Marine Industries Association of Saint Lucia, said Hathaway’s death was a “big shock.” “Apart from anything else, Bob was a pal of mine,” the BBC reports him saying. “He was on the executive committee of the association and he was an integral part of it."

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokeswoman said the staff are supporting his family following his death and are in contact with the St. Lucian police.
