No, you’ve not gone mad. The 2011 Monaco Yacht Show actually is a week away. Although it seems like only yesterday that you cast off and headed across the Atlantic for the 2011 Med season, it’s time to say far thee well and celebrate a great summer at one of yachting’s premier boat shows. What can you expect this year from this always-exciting show? Mark your calendars with these events to be sure you don’t miss anything because it will be over in the blink of an eye.
First thing’s first…Happy Hour. Dockwalk is pleased to host our annual pre-show happy hour at Fusion Restaurant above Stars ‘n’ Bars on Tuesday, September 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The perfect place to come and shake out those pre-show jitters and relax before the hectic show commences. Both drinks and snacks will be on the agenda and a DJ will be on hand to get the party started right. Although our happy hour ends at 8:30, crew are invited to stay and dance the night away — just remember, your wake up call could come early on the first day of the show.
And once the show has begun, what’s a tired, hungry, hot crewmember to do to escape the throngs of people milling about the docks, popping on board with brokers and asking a million questions? Head for the Captains’ Hideout, where Dockwalk and our sponsors offer refuge and food, drinks, air conditioning and even Wi-Fi…all free for you, just because you’re crew.
And if you thought it couldn’t get any better, think again. Our sponsors are dishing up some delightful prizes for your winning pleasure. Be sure you run into someone from ISS GMT and get a scratch-and-win ticket that not only instantly offers you a chance to win a $100 travel voucher, but also doubles as a ticket for the grand prize drawing: a $500 travel voucher. You can also enter to win a Decker’s jacket, a marine leather diary and canvas conference bag courtesy of Andrew Weir Yacht Management or a Suunto Regatta Watch from Dimension Polyant or spin the Wheel of Fortune for an array of prizes from Galleytek.
The Hideout officially opens for business on Wednesday, September 21, at 10:00 a.m. and will run every day until the show closes on Saturday, September 24, until 4:00 p.m. A continental breakfast will be served from 10 a.m. to noon, at which time a hot lunch buffet opens for your noshing pleasure. The menu features an array of items and changes daily. Lunch will be served from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Register here
ISS and PYS members better get their taste buds ready because the Meeting of the Associations’ International Wine Tasting will take place on Wednesday, September 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Yacht Club de Monaco. This event is for ISS and PYA members only.
The MCA will be holding court at the International School of Monaco at 5:15 p.m. Thursday evening for the Sea Changes forum, presented by the PYA, a discussion of coming industry regulations and new training requirements stemming from changes to international conventions. In addition, the proposed new interior crew training structure from the PYA will be discussed. Space in limited to 200, so RSVP quickly. The session will conclude with a cocktail and canape reception. Register
Fraser captains and crew will be dressed to the nines at the annual Fraser Yachts Captains’ Dinner, from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Thursday, September 22 at Yacht Club de Monaco, where Fraser will honor its Charter Captain and Crew of the Year at its annual Captains’ Dinner. This event is invitation only.
After they’re done congratulating the captain and crew of the year, Fraser Yachts and The Crew Network invites captains and crew to the Fraser Yachts stand, QE24, to raise a glass to their hard work over the summer season and to toast the Monaco Yacht Show. Join them on Friday, September 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. This event is invitation only.
