Lauren Beck is the former editor of Dockwalk and was with the publication from 2006 to 2023. At 13, she left South Africa aboard a 34-foot sailing boat with her family and ended up in St. Maarten for six years. Before college, she worked as crew for a year, and then cut her journalistic teeth at Better Homes and Gardens and Ladies’ Home Journal online. She loves traveling, reading, tennis, and rooting for the Boston Red Sox.

There’s great power in getting a little extra help when you need it. Jules Thomson, a former interior manager/chief stewardess with 13 years on both private and charter yachts, now specializes in RTT®, a therapeutic approach that uses “powerful, evidence-based techniques to provide people with the tools they need to make positive change,” she says.

Thomson, whose last position in yachting was interior manager on the 96-meter Limitless for seven years, was trained by the world-renowned hypnotherapist Marisa Peer, who developed and trademarked the RTT method.

RTT — Rapid Transformational Therapy — can help anyone, in many ways — build confidence, fast-track weight loss efforts, quit smoking and drinking, rationalize and eliminate phobias, establish career direction, improve focus, and more, with just one to three sessions.

“I think in life now there are so many challenges and high expectations that people question and feel that they are ‘not enough,’ which leads to negative beliefs and thoughts,” Thomson says. “We are what we think, so give yourself better thoughts — this is where I can help.”

“I believe the therapy is extremely powerful and beneficial to change one’s mindset and beliefs,” Thomson says.

Thomson is no stranger to supporting others with their mental health. She was part of a group of women in Palma in 2018 who created “Life is for Living” after several suicides in the industry. “We came together to bring more awareness around mental health within the yachting community, to spread the message that ‘it is okay to not be okay’ and that there is a lot of help and guidance out there for crew in any situation,” she says.

The experience inspired her. “I started following Marisa Peer and the work she does, and the results were truly unbelievable. I felt like I had found my purpose,” Thomson says. So she signed up to take Peer’s training courses during COVID, which naturally led to her decision to set up her own business.

Jules Thomson officially launched in December 2022 as an RTT Practitioner Certified Hypnotherapist. RTT combines principles of hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, neuro-linguistic programming, and cognitive behavioral therapy methods. RTT works with the subconscious mind, where “everything we have learned and experienced is kept. RTT gets you unstuck very quickly and easily, by accessing the subconscious using hypnosis,” she says.

As Thomson explains, “Hypnotic trance is a completely natural state of inward focus, like being totally absorbed while watching a movie. You are in total control.” Thomson uses language that “sparks the imagination,” she says, making each client a personal recording, which is “essential to unblocking their limiting subconscious beliefs.” After listening to the recording for 21 days, it “lays down pathways and connections between neurons. As new pathways are strengthened, new behaviors become second nature. With RTT, you easily, effortlessly, happily break free from what was weighing you down. You just let go.”

The response has been “phenomenal,” she says. She is currently offering a limited time promotional offer of 10 percent discount for yacht crew, which includes a complimentary 20-minute call to explain the process of RTT, followed by a 1.5- to 2-hour Zoom call and your personalized recording. She also follows up after 7 and 21 days.

“I believe the therapy is extremely powerful and beneficial to change one’s mindset and beliefs,” Thomson says. “Unlike most therapies, we get to the root, the cause and the reason, to help the clients understand where the issue came from by tapping into their subconscious and harnessing their own power to change that belief with rapid, effective, long-lasting results,” she says.
