S/Y Black Pearl Damaged in Porto Montenegro

16 February 2021 By Staff Report

On February 14, Porto Montenegro recorded the strongest winds since it began operation in 2009. The Boka Bay experienced strong winds from the north, locally known as a Bura, which is usually more common to the north of the Adriatic. The winds were well above the forecast, Porto Montenegro shared in a Facebook post.

Unfortunately, a few vessels sustained some damage, including S/Y Black Pearl. But there were no injuries or serious issues reported from any yacht or on shore, which they credit to the natural protection of Boka Bay and quick response from captains, crew, and the Porto Montenegro marina team.

In a video posted on S/Y Black Pearl’s Instagram account on February 15, Capt. Chris Gartner says, “We recorded over 63 knots of true wind speed. Other boats around here have experienced about 80 knots of wind speed. Unfortunately, during that time, we had a few lines part, and due to our lines parting, we did go up against the dock. We suffered some minor damage, some paint and what not.”

No one was hurt, and the marina team assisted and supplied fenders, lines, divers, and tug captains. Capt. Gartner gave a special thanks to the captain and crew of M/Y Pelorus for their help.
