Evolving what used to be a cookery school in Palma, mymuybueno has shifted courses online to be more accessible and convenient for chefs. In November 2023, the first online training courses for private chefs on yachts or land were launched by mymuybueno Academy of Culinary Arts, covering culinary skills and techniques in all areas.

Yacht chefs Nina Wilson and Micail Swindells lead the Superyacht Chef Cookery and Advanced Plating and Presentation courses, respectively. The courses cover a week’s worth of training with modules focusing on different skills and techniques, such as deboning a chicken wing, sushi rice, ice creams, chocolates, and more. To supplement these courses, the academy offers guest chef courses and modules from the UK’s leading restaurant chefs. The courses feel more intimate than ever before, with students feeling like they are one-on-one with the chef, and they can be accessed an unlimited number of times after registration, Founder and CEO Justine Murphy shares.

Using her 25 years of experience in the superyacht and hospitality industries, Murphy designed the courses for chefs to develop skills where they have gaps. “Our focus is on providing the very best training in culinary arts, in a step-by-step module format, so that culinary professionals can learn with confidence every step of the way,” she says. “We are revolutionizing the way chefs learn, instilling confidence with our way of teaching to benefit them for life.”

Each module has a downloadable list of ingredients and equipment required. Not only will chefs share each element of the dishes but also their plating tips, including the most appropriate flatware, glassware, and cutlery. Every course includes a PDF of the covered recipes, student support, and a course completion certificate.

While courses are titled as one day or week, they can be completed at your own pace. The names are based on how they were done as an in-person course but gives students an idea of how long is needed to complete if done in one sitting.

“We’ve designed this course to provide aspiring individuals with the finest foundation in the yachting industry,” Wilson says. “We’ve built it to include a variety of dishes and techniques that will equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the world  of superyacht cuisine. I couldn’t be more thrilled about this endeavour and the potential it holds for those looking to embark on a successful journey in this remarkable industry.”

Swindells adds that “mymuybueno Academy of Culinary Arts represents an unparalleled and potent platform dedicated to the acquisition of novel skills and culinary techniques, guided by some of the world’s most esteemed chefs. It is with immense professional pride that I partake in this endeavour, contributing years of accumulated knowledge for your benefit.”

Guest chefs will share their signature dishes in one-day courses. Gareth Ward, Adam Handling, Harriet Mansell, Tom Booton, and Sally Abé are among those who have already created modules with mymuybueno.

“The courses are going down so well, especially with our own community of yacht chefs as being able to do them from their galley, getting this great learning that is now so easily accessible, and advancing their culinary training with their favourite top chefs teaching them,” Murphy says. “As well as our brilliant house chefs, Micail and Nina who impart so much more into their courses about working on yachts and practical tips, too.”

House chef courses cover at least 15 dishes and start at £1,650. Guest chef modules start at £70.The Academy of Culinary Arts is part of mymuybueno Group, which includes the agency mymuybueno Private Chefs, and with a mymuybueno UNITY account, yachts that purchase a package of culinary courses can receive the package’s cost in credit for chef placement fees with the agency.
