M/Y Miracle Catches Fire North of Puerto Rico

The 110-foot Jamaican-flagged M/Y Miracle caught fire Monday night, March 14, while en route fromFort Lauderdale, Florida, to Antigua, according to a U.S. Coast Guard newsrelease. Fortunately, none of the passengers were injured.

The release states that the fire broke out roughly 70nautical miles north of Mona Island, Puerto Rico, engulfing the vessel inflames. The U.S. Coast Guard received a MAYDAY call reporting that thepassengers were abandoning the yacht to its 32-foot tender and dispatched anHC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft and the Cutter JosephNapier to the scene.

The cutter escorted the tender and its six passengers, fivemen and one woman — two Australians, a South African, and three U.S. citizens— toAnasco, Puerto Rico, where they met with Customs and Border ProtectionOfficers.

There is no report on the cause of the fire.
