As the calendar pages quickly fall like leaves in October, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show approaches. Less than two weeks from now yachts will line the Intracoastal waterways as crew take over America’s version of Venice. You’ve made it through the Med season and possibly even the Monaco Yacht Show. You may be tired, even a bit burnt out, but get your party shoes on because FLIBS is turning 50 this year it’s taking no prisoners! Dockwalk has taken all of the guess work out of planning your FLIBS social calendar. Jam-packed with posh parties and exciting events, this year is gearing up to be better than any before!

Charter Destinations Seminar

Rybovich Captains Golf Invitational

Grab your clubs and get ready to hit the green – or the sand, depending on your skills – for the fifth annual Captains Golf Invitational. One hundred and forty-four captain/golfers will tee off at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 16, at the Boca Raton Resort & Club thanks to this year’s title sponsor Rybovich as well as Awlgrip, Dockwalk, Global Marine Travel, Marine Surveyor Group, MHG, Northrop and Johnson and Smallwood’s. Your illustrious hosts, Wes Sanford and John Booysen, will be on hand to present awards and keep the fun coming as captains enjoy a poolside dinner.

Crew 7’s Rugby Tournament

Don’t get a lot of rugby action on board? Well, head up to Rybovich and you can join in the 7v7 touch rugby tournament. Thanks to the shipyard and Global Marine Travel you can enjoy an afternoon and evening of sport, bar-b-que and drinks. What could be better on a Saturday after all?

IYT Mini Megayacht Mooring Competition

Think you have superior boat handling skills? Well put them to the test maneuvering Lady Amelia around buoys, into slips and back on the dock. First Annual Memorial Boat Show Party

In honor of the man who created FLIBS, Kaye Person, the Quarterdeck on Cordova Road in Fort Lauderdale is holding their first annual Memorial party. A donation of $5.00 gets you two free drinks and happy hour prices (doubles for $4.00) all night. Mods vs. Rockers Poker Run
Saturday, October 24: 9 a.m.

Are you a cool rider? Prove it – don your leather jacket and join in the fun. This poker run runs from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., starting at Fort Lauderdale Vespa, winding its way around South Florida and ending back in Fort Lauderdale at Cinema Paradiso by 3 p.m. Collect your poker cards at each stop; first, second and third prize will be awarded for the best poker hands as well as a “hard luck” prize for the worst, best dressed and people’s choice in the bike show. The evening will conclude with a showing of the movie Quadrophenia. Sign up early and get your t-shirt. All proceeds will go to Stray Aid & Rescue.

Yacht Bikers Poker Run

Hop on your hog and ride for charity. Head to National Marine headquarters on Wednesday, October 28, between 2 and 4 p.m. to get the show on the road…literally. The four-stop poker run takes you from Land Shark Stadium to Shooters/La Playa where a DJ, live entertainment and awards are sure to keep the party going. Proceeds are donated to Kids in Distress, a nationally accredited agency dedicated to the prevention of child abuse, the preservation of the family and the care and treatment of abused children.

Do you have fl air for the fi nest décor? If so, sign up for the second annual Perfect Setting Tabletop Challenge on Friday, October 30. Hosted by YachtNext, entrants from 20 yachts (all must be participating in the Fort Lauderdale International Boat show) will have the chance to show their table-setting stylings in two categories: “Putting on the Ritz” (formal interior dining) and “A Foreign Affair” (informal exterior dining). Collaboration is key this year as the International Superyacht Society (ISS), Marine
Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) and the United States Superyacht Association (USSA) come together to create YachtInfo, a comprehensive program dedicated to the development of yachting professionals. This year’s YachtInfo seminar differs from previous year’s seminars and will include a morning session (9 a.m.–12 p.m.), lunch, an afternoon session (1–4 p.m.), a captain’s briefing (4:30–6 p.m.) and a cocktail party (6–7 p.m.).
