As the calendar pages quickly fall like leaves in October, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show approaches. Less than two weeks from now yachts will line the Intracoastal waterways as crew take over America’s version of Venice. You’ve made it through the Med season and possibly even the Monaco Yacht Show. You may be tired, even a bit burnt out, but get your party shoes on because FLIBS is turning 50 this year it’s taking no prisoners! Dockwalk has taken all of the guess work out of planning your FLIBS social calendar. Jam-packed with posh parties and exciting events, this year is gearing up to be better than any before!

First Annual Memorial Boat Show Party

In honor of the man who created FLIBS, Kaye Person, the Quarterdeck on Cordova Road in Fort Lauderdale is holding their first annual Memorial party. Mods vs. Rockers Poker Run

This poker run runs from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., starting at Fort Lauderdale Vespa, winding its way around South Florida and ending back in Fort Lauderdale at Cinema Paradiso by 3 p.m. Collect your poker cards at each stop; first, second and third prize will be awarded for the best poker hands as well as a “hard luck” prize for the worst, best dressed and people’s choice in the bike show. Yacht Bikers Poker Run

Hop on your hog and ride for charity. Head to National Marine headquarters on Wednesday, October 28, between 2 and 4 p.m. to get the show on the road…literally. The four-stop poker run takes you from Land Shark Stadium to Shooters/La Playa where a DJ, live entertainment and awards are sure to keep the party going. Proceeds are donated to Kids in Distress, a nationally accredited agency dedicated to the prevention of child abuse, the preservation of the family and the care and treatment of abused children.

Collaboration is key this year as the International Superyacht Society (ISS), Marine
Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) and the United States Superyacht Association (USSA) come together to create YachtInfo, a comprehensive program dedicated to the development of yachting professionals. This year’s YachtInfo seminar differs from previous year’s seminars and will include a morning session (9 a.m.–12 p.m.), lunch, an afternoon session (1–4 p.m.), a captain’s briefing (4:30–6 p.m.) and a cocktail party (6–7 p.m.).
