4 January 2016

Lürssen’s 70.68-meter M/Y TheOne caught fire around 2 a.m. this morning, January 4, in Marmaris, Turkey, before spreading to the neighboring Al Jadaf 52-meter M/Y Barbie about 30 minutes later, according to a video uploaded byEliad Hagiladi of Yacht Marine Management and Brokerage.

Stormy weather conditions were in the area that night, with strong southeasterly winds of roughly 35 knots. Fortunately, the fire didn’t spread to other nearby yachts inthe marina, which were able to escape to open water and wait at anchor.According to local media reports, the firefighters fought for four hoursagainst the flames in an effort to save the burning vessels. The water used toextinguish the fire is currently being pumped from the vessels to prevent themfrom sinking.

The yachts appear to have suffered severe damage, and aninvestigation is under way to determine the extent of the damages and cause ofthe fire.
