Fire Breaks Out on M/Y Lady Vanilla in Italy

5 October 2020 By Staff Report

In the early afternoon on Friday, October 2, a fire broke out aboard 29-meter M/Y Lady Vanilla in Marina di Loano, Italy. Firefighters extinguished the flames after about two hours, Liguria Nautica reports. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries caused by the incident.

It is thought that the fire could have been caused by overheating of the batteries inside the engine room. The marina staff alerted firefighters immediately of the fire. Liguria Nautica reports that “a dense column of black smoke rose from the burning yacht, visible from miles away.”

From Liguria Nautica’s YouTube video, it appears much of the vessel became engulfed in flames. Vessels that were moored nearby were moved to a safe distance, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
