A family friend introduced me to the world of yachting; he is currently a chief officer based in the US.
I am currently a deckhand on board Eternity and I love it; my current goal is to progress into the bosun role. I love working out on the deck with the crew and the hands-on nature of the job.
What makes Eternity great is definitely our crew — particularly the crew dynamic. We all have longevity on board. The thing that I love about this boat is that we all work as one, like a family. Everyone helps each other out. Our current crew is basically
one of the best crew I have ever worked with.
For those looking to get started, my advice is to work hard every opportunity you get and never give up — with a positive attitude, good things will eventually come your way.
I am sure a lot of fellow crew would agree, but the toughest part about this adventurous life is the time away from home and family.
The most important thing I’ve learned on board is to stay positive during the busy times. Keeping a smile on your face can make all the difference for yourself and your crew.
My best piece of advice is to always be yourself and to always listen to those willing to teach and give you opportunities.
If I wasn’t in yachting, I would be working on my family’s farm. It’s my happy place and rewarding work, and I love working with my hands.
