I have recently been told that mariners can deduct on their 1040 form a per diem for time while shipped out. Is this true? If so, under what section of the IRS tax code is this spelled out?

Hello,  Thank you for your question

Yes there is a per diem allowance allowed.  It is based per city that you are traveling.  Some cities allow over $200, but most are less than $50.  There is a chart that is published that somoe accounts have access to,  This isi  of course a deduction not a credit.  Thank you Eric@MyTaxGuru.Com 954-763-2829
