Y1 Endorsement

I have a question with regard to Y1 endorsements with the MCA. I have a Class 2 unlimited & was lookin into getting a Y1 endorsement with the MCA. My COC is Irish & I contacted the MCA about getting my endorsement after having 6 months yacht time done. They kindly replied to tell me that because my COC was a non-UK one that I had to do all the Y2 exams to be eligible for a Y1.

I applied and received an MCA CEC and this seems to have made no difference. I don't have the time at the moment to go back and do 3 months in college to sit my Class one but is this the only option I have or has anyone managed to get a Y1 without sitting Y2 exams on a non-UK COC?

Thanks in advance,

Why would you go back to school to downgrade your license?  Continue on your current career path.  Max out with your unlimited Chief.  Then you can sail on anything you want at any time.  Do not restrict yourself to the Y-scheme of licenses.
