According to the poll conducted on the fall/winter charter season in September, 39 percent of poll respondents had no charters booked. (See Dockwalk’s November 2011 issue for more on the results.) The poll information was used in part to influence the contents of the 20th edition of CharterFleet International.

If your charter numbers were disappointingly low, the U.S. offers some news that may bring you a little cheer this season. Forbes reported a recent study by American Express Business Insights that notes that despite the unpredictable world economies, Americans are still traveling and, increasingly, are traveling in style.

Indulgence in luxury air travel is just one of the markers. Analyzing key demographic groups in key cities, American Express found that in its Q3 data, Americans are willing to spend big bucks for comfort in travel.

Ed Jay, the senior vice president of American Express Business Insights, says that “selective luxury spending” is a new trend this year in the travel sector. “While value remains important to consumers, Q3 spending patterns indicate they consider luxury purchases to be worth the expense,” said Jay.

Holiday travel is expected to rise this year, with a projected 10 percent increase from vacation spending last year. Six out of ten Americans will plan a holiday trip in 2011, yielding a 50 percent increase from 2010, according to a report from the Access America Vacation Confidence Index released by Mondial Assistance USA.

So, that's 61% of poll respondents that do have charters booked....?

Seems you are quoting 'American Express' and 'Forbes' as your litmus for economic statistics?

6 out of 10 Americans planning a 2011 vacation?

Hum,er, that's only 3 weeks left of the year for the massive 50% increase over 2010 for the US population to get it done, according to the singular insurance company figures you are quoting (Mondial Assistance)

Oops! my mistake! it seems the above is just blatent product endorsement for CharterFleet International......

For a moment I thought this was a discussion forum.
