Planning the Perfect Beach Picnic

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer!  No matter which beach you currently are calling home, a well-planned picnic adds a new dimension to fun in the sun.  Although picking up sandwiches and heading to the shore is sometimes good enough, a little bit of creativity can turn an ordinary lunch at the beach into the perfect seaside picnic.

 

Whether you’re planning an outing for charter guests, friends or family, a few simple tips will make your job much easier and wow your guests with your attention to detail.  Great food is essential, but so are comfort and convenience. Here are five basics to keep in mind:  

 

  • Use your hands.  Select menu items that are easy to eat.  You won’t need to bring a basket full of utensils and cleanup will be a breeze. 
  • Made in the shade.  Find a spot with plenty of shade to protect your guests and the food from the sun.  If one is not available, bring several beach umbrellas, along with folding beach chairs and a small folding table for cool, comfortable convenience.    
  • Set the scene.  Colorful table cloths, or big, beautiful beach towels, allow you to spread out your feast in style. Cloth napkins are classier than paper and also less likely to blow away. Complete the décor and keep the corners down on a windy day with a few rocks from the shoreline.
  • Stay hydrated.  Throw some ice in Ziploc bags so it stays clean for mixing drinks.  Along with a specialty cocktail or tasty craft beer, pack your cooler with plenty of partially frozen drinking water.  Use the Ziplocs for packing up bits and pieces at the end of the day.
  • Remember the small stuff.  Paper towels, hand wipes and a bottle opener always come in handy. You’ll also need trash bags to carry the garbage off the beach.

I hope these popular dishes provide some creative inspiration for the best beach picnics ever!

 

  •  Guava BBQ Wings – It’s a wildly popular finger food! Create your own marinade and serve the wings with celery and blue cheese dipping sauce. 
  •  Smoked Fish Dip – We prepare it with smoked mahi-mahi and surround it with crisp, tri-color tortilla chips.
  •  Seafood Salad – For the ultimate summer-at-the-seaside dish, toss shrimp, scallops, crabmeat, papaya, and micro greens in Mediterranean vinaigrette.
  • Guayabera Martini – Named for the popular shirts often worn at beach and destination weddings, this festive specialty drink is made with Kettle One vodka, Cointreau, fresh guava puree and a splash of cranberry.
