Hi all,

This season will be the first time in four years that I will be bringing a yacht into Italian waters, and I just want to be sure that I won't get stung for VAT.  The boat has very recently been commercially registered, non EU flagged (Jersey), with a BVI company owner, and is non VAT paid.  We have recent proof of leaving the EU, as this is our first time in the MED for some time.

We have planned for some time a non commercial trip to Italy for the owner.  My information regarding the regulation regarding VAT payment is that any yacht carrying out a commercial activity may be requested to show proof of VAT paid status, and, as we do not intend to do this I was under the impression that we were acting withing the regulations.

To support this, I have done this a few years ago without problem, but have recently read much talk of the Italians and rule changes.

Can anyone clarify the current situation?

Many Thanks

Paul
