Failing to plan and dealing with what seems to be a failed plan

Reorientation of resources and schedules according to reality is a prerequisite for project managers, owner’s representatives, captains, engineers and all crew managing large and small jobs.


Lamenting past errors gets you absolutely nowhere when the smelly stuff hits the fan.


Continuing with flawed processes and duplication of previously failed steps will prolong the anguish, draw people closer to the edge of failure and / or insanity.


Focusing on the big picture and accounting for all accomplishments and lessons learned will enable the team to determine the true scope of achievement at any given stage of the project. Reviewing the good is perhaps more important than obsessing about the bad.


A continuous process of improvement and activities which place an emphasis on the positives will sustain the projects forward momentum.


Strong leaders will make bold and radical steps and initiate change, hesitation and second guessing very quickly leads into bottlenecks and rework. Sometimes you just need to jump in and seize serendipitous moments. Make hay while the sun shines as they say.


Focusing on physical progress and establishing administrative processes which positively contribute to value adding initiatives that expound the project completion date are paramount.


Few things occur in a linear or predictive cycle for long and this is the absolute beauty of working with complex and challenging projects, because things are always evolving and opportunities to achieve the seemingly impossible are constantly arising if your are organized, focused and prepared to be assertive.


Innovation is the fruit of adversity and steadfastly focusing on the final outcome and dealing with the day to day is how real people complete yachting projects in the real world.


Focusing on non-value adding processes which consume valuable resources diminishes economic & time budgets.


Good managers get the job done, whereas great managers complete the job and convert tasks into value adding activities which yacht owners are willing to pay for.
