Just 10 kilometres north of the lively city of Porto (a World Heritage Site) is the town of Matosinhos, home of Marina Porto-Atlântico. Split into two areas by the docks, Matosinhos is on the more industrial and residential southern side, while Leça da Palmeira to the north is the summer home of artists and writers. The marina is set close to the attractive, sandy beaches that line this stretch of the Atlantic coast. Fishing is the town's main occupation and dominates the choice of restaurants available, mainly excellent shellfish and seafood places, as well as tasquinhas – traditional taverns serving food.
