The port of Marina El Alamein was the centre of commercial activities, hospitality and
business in Roman times. Towards the west of the Marina is a small city that acquired international fame – El Alamein, which witnessed the greatest land battle in history between the allies and the axis powers during World War II. Victims of the fighting were buried in catacombs built especially for the purpose, and visitors come from all over the world to see them. Established by the state, Marina El Alamein is a tourist recreational village.
