Make your plans for Sardinia, but do it quickly.
With close to 30 yachts making their way to Porto Cervo, Sardinia, for the Boat International Superyacht Regatta – Silver Jubilee, the scene is set for some thrilling on-water action, and some memorable off-water entertainment.
The regatta, which begins its first day of racing on Monday, June 23, has attracted an impressive contingent of the world’s top sailing superyachts, making the Boat International Superyacht Regatta – Silver Jubilee the largest superyacht regatta in the Mediterranean.
Entries range from the 23.89m Acaia Cube to the 51.7m Kokomo, and encompassing the flyers – such as Alfa Romeo and Senso One (ex-Mari Cha IV) – and more traditional yachts, such as Lulworth and Borkumriff IV.
Sir Donald Gosling reported Friday that Leander had dropped anchor in the bay and that he was "ready for action," and the Royal Huisman-built Athena will also be at anchor to watch the racing.
Crews will be competing on the water for bragging rights and a number of prizes, not least of which will be the Boat International silver trophy specially commissioned from Garrard – jewelers to the Crown and makers of the America’s Cup.
There are also trophies from Linley, Azure Dragon Marine Sculptures, Latitude Kinsale, Audi and Rolex. Southern Wind will be using the event to host their 9th SWS Trophy, and there will also be a trophy for the top-scored International Maxi Association (IMA) member yacht.
Of course, the racing – organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda – in the fine waters off Porto Cervo is only half the story. Boat International will be on hand to keep you posted on all the social happenings, including reports from the windward rail to the gossip at the captain and crew after-race drinks each day in the YCCS regatta village.
