hey! I have just started working on a boat in Genova, and wondered if anyone has been here before and had any advice (places to go etc...) as only been to the local town next to the Marina Genova and it looks like there isn't much going on. Thanks

Hi, I suppose your boat is in Marina Genova Aeroporto (like mine), because the other marinas (Porto Antico, MoloVecchio) are in the very heart of the town. So, in order to find something to do in Genoa you need... to go to Genoa! If you don't have a car or a bike, you can use the bus that regularly connects the Marina to the train or subway stations. In less than 30 minutes you'll be in the Porto Antico area, where you can find pubs, restaurants, cinemas, shops, people...

Here till the boat decides to go to dry dock somewhere, probably till mid December. Had a look at the free Marina gym yesterday but its pretty basic, any other you can recommend?

Go skiing or snowboarding! There are a few of ski resorts within a few hours drive, and you can rent cars easily from the airport. Head up to Cervina or Limone Piemonte (sp?). Chamonix as well if you're keen, just head through the Mont Blanc tunnel.
Genova isn't that bad!

Hi all,
Have to say I am surprised there are so many negative responses!
I love Genova, the food is great the people are friendly when you compare to Rome or Milan! There are some great places to go out! The ice cream is awesome!
I am quite jealous I'd prefer it there to anywhere on the French coast!
Speak to the girls on the desk in the marina office they are really great!
Oh and a good time to learn some more Italian!
Enjoy

Ciao a tutti, Italia is such an amazing country no matter where you are. Although Genoa is a large city, just get out and start walking and get to know the area and people that way. Although I have the advantage of speaking fluent Italian, I find that the locals will do their best to help out anyone. I'm feenin to winter there....
