According to Hurriyetdailynews.com, the historic 136-meter vessel Savarona is involved in a prostitution scandal. The website reports, “Fourteen people onboard the Savarona, including businessmen and underage girls allegedly brought from Russia and Ukraine for high-cost prostitution, were detained Monday in a raid on an alleged prostitution ring as the boat lay moored near the Mediterranean town of Göcek.” Savarona is owned by the Republic of Turkey but is operated by a Turkish businessman Kahraman Sadıkoğlu, who holds a 49-year lease on it. Hurriyetdailynews.com states that the Turkish finance minister has started proceedings to cancel the lease. The leaseholder told a television program that there is no reason to seize the vessel; his argument being that no one seizes hotels that are used for prostitution. Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek was quoted by Hurriyetdailynews.com and said that if Sadıkoğlu does not accept the cancellation of the contract, the issue will be taken to court. Charterworld.com lists Savarona as available for charter in the Eastern Med for €350,000 per week. Gee, Id expect government property to be confiscated when misused. The Turkish Government owns Savarona . Savarona was Ataturk's presidential yacht, then a training ship for the Turkish Navy until it was leased to the present operator . In Turkey its not wise to degrade anything connected to the legacy of Ataturk.

How many years has this vessel been available for charter by persons from the FSU? - I have a feeling there is more to this story than is being reported - where is Paul Harvey when you need him?

I recall Mr. Sadikoglu and his family being guests aboard "The Other Woman" in th Bosphorus back in the '90s while Savarona underwent a MASSIVE refit in his shipyard near Istanbul. He and his family all seemed very nice. I was a deckhand at the time and he complimented me on my bartending skills.
I wonder who paid for that refit. Even though he owned the shipyard it must have cost many millions.

Under a charter contract the owner has no say in what happens onboard although he may terminate the charter if he becomes aware of illegal activities or other breaches of the contract. This sounds like the Govt. on a morality crusade or just trying to take down a wealthy opponent.

Is the 350,000 Euros with or without the hookers?

Come along now Henning, you should know the 350k only covers the vessel, crew, fittings and furniture. Prostitutes, booze, drugs, food and captains are extra...

Come along now junior, you should know better than to try lay blame on the poor old honest charter agent, who, incidentally would endevour to ensure a very effective disclaimer/cop-out clause is in place before they sign any such deal.
Rusty Wrench here, this is my post, dunno why it came up 'anonymous'....

And another thing junior..if you read, digest and enjoy the Daily Mail, a low quality publication deeply entrenched in the past and constantly harping on about 'the gloroius good old days', it would be wise to remain silent than to quote it. However, now that we all know where you are coming from, we are better prepared.....

That was in prior economic times, now everything is up for negotiation and "complete packages" are offered.

And so it would appear.
Savarona certainly seemed to be offering the ''Executive deluxe fully loaded complete package'' with plenty of 'negotiation' taking place...!
