Example:

You work on average 100 hours a week throughout the Med season on a charter boat.

Sometimes 120 in a busy week.

Sometimes waking at 7 after finishing work at 1am. Perhaps with a wake up during the night if particularly unlucky.

So...

There tends to be a few people up the chain that don't like these kind of hours being recorded.

Head of department, officers, captains etc.

There can be pressure to fake it so everything looks like some 9 hour a day fairytale when the hours get sent to the boats management company.

What exactly are the pros and cons of faking it?

Something to keep in mind is that in the off season there may be days off granted when your contracted to work 7 days a week. Also much shorter days at the other extreme. Possibly drawing attention for the opposite reason.
