Barcelona and Beards

Hi All

So I'm a "greenie"? but spent ages in hospitality. Looking to begin a carer in yachting and am planning on heading to the med for my first season.

I've been contemplating an Antibes start over Palma? over the last couple of days my attention has been brought to Barcelona. The last forum thread i could find on this was from 2010 so im asking for perhaps an updated opinion on starting there.

Secondly I am a bearded lad and have been for over 6 years in different measures of bushiness. i do keep the bugger oiled and trimmed and I do know that beards have become a spot more acceptable in the hospitality trade recently. Is this the same for yachts or should I bin the bastard in favour of better prospects on the dock?

Thanks for any help

I hope you all have an amazing day!

Regards

Nik

Hi Nick,

In regards to Barcelona, yes there are yachts there, nowhere near as many as Antibes or Palma, but at the same time less competition from people looking for jobs there.

The main place to go is Port Vell which is near Barceloneta Beach. You can't actually get onto the Dock itself but the security fence is only 30m back from the boats so you can speak to people from the edge. Best time to go is early in the morning when people are out an about on the wharf.

There are also a couple of agencies there too, one was called Barcelona Crew or something and I forget the other, but they are in a the general vacinty.

Wherever you end up going just remember to speak to anyone and everyone. You feel a bit silly doing so but it's how you get your start.

Thanks tons for all of that!

Im definitely going to look into it.

Antibes was my first choice but I'm wondering if Palma is worth a squirt.

Again, thanks for the reply.
