Forty-five days, 13 hours, 42 minutes and 53 seconds.
That’s what it took for 40-meter maxi trimaran Banque Populaire V to
capture the record for non-stop global circumnavigation. On January 6, 2012,
after six weeks at sea, the crew crossed the Jules Verne Trophy finish line
near Brest, France, beating the prior record — set by Groupama 3 —
by more than two and a half days. Brian Thompson, one of 13 crewmembers on
board Banque Populaire V captained by Frenchman Loïck
Peyron, took home a second record, one only he can claim. Thompson is the
first Brit to circumnavigate the world, non-stop, four times.
