Specialized engine courses

I wish to know why are requested special courses for particular engines(such Caterpillat or MTU) if onboard exists all technical documentation of that engine,where you can see and learn all data necessary to use and mantain that engine.

Succinctly, engines and the associated systems, on M/Ys, represent about 20% of the total value of the yacht. Consequently, if the yacht is new then it will come with a warranty. Warranty depends on, and varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Therefore, to maintain a warrant, the manufacturer of said engine requires any person that 'works' on it to be qualified to do so by attending one of their many courses. Sadly, even to do basic maintenance such as oil changes, belt changes, etc etc requires the first level of service skill and certificate from the manufacturer. So to keep the warranty only manufacturer approved mechanics, and let's use the correct term not engineer, must have attended this course. Working on an engine without attending this course will invaldate the warranty!! At the end of the warranty period, the yacht will have amassed a plethora of history sheets, pictures, records etc etc so to keep the capital value of the yacht most Captain's will only allow approved engineers to work on said engines.
