B1/B2 Visa in the Bahamas

Has anybody RECENTLY gone to the BAHAMAS to get their B1/B2 Visa? How was your experience? HOW LONG did it take? Did you BOOK an appointment AHEAD?

If you have a LETTER OF EMPLOYMENT? from a vessel can you just exit (i.e. on a Casino Ship or airplane to the Bahamas), come back and get your B1/B2 VISA ON ARRIVAL at the entry to the United States??

Any input so much appreciated (by a lot of people scratching their heads in confusion and trying to get some clear information)!

To resolve this question for everybody:

The US Embassy in the Bahamas as of this year changed their policy and does NOT issue first-time Visa applications any more.
Visa renewals currently have a waiting list of about one month...
