At one end of the scale I see fussy wannabes and veteran crew wanting dream jobs and at the other end of the scale I see employers unwilling to apply the resources required develop and retain crew. Yachting is lousy at developing people and managing resources, never balances supply with demand and is prone to instability, because everyone lives for today and deals with tomorrow when it is too late. When I am on top I look down, and when I am down I always look up, opportunity and hard lessons from the past only unveil themselves when people examine actuality. You never know if you choices where correct until you compare final outcomes with predicted results. Success and failure are not functions of external circumstance. They are functions of preparedness and the measure of one’s vulnerabilities. My weakness is my greatest strength, because it reminds me I can do more with less and constantly need to develop new skills.
