If anyone has some formatting tips on how to do paragraphs, indents, bullets, we can use some help to format the text to work better. When we cut and paste info, in the posting edit screen it shows up formated, but when we post it, shows up a lump paragraph.

The Slacker, how does that look to you? Are you involved with a boat that is of a size where those regulations need to be followed?

We just received our new cert's. IOPP, and IAPP. The ISPP is good for another 2 years. Non-classed, 683 tons. It requires some work and preparation but nothing that you shouldn't be doing year round to protect the environment. They are a bit expensive but that's part of owing a super yacht. The MARPOL reg's can be a bit confusing but the surveyor's are experts at explaining them so they make sense. Detailed paperwork and good record keeping are absolute's.

My name is Rex Westergard. Yacht agent for Yacht Services of Alaska. Mark Drewelow's information is extremely important for vessels cruising the West Coast of North America including Alaska. USCG, Customs and Border Protection and the West Coast States get mighty upset with vessel owners and masters which have not done their homework before arrival, particularly when they have already entered regulated areas without the proper documentation. It is embarassing, costly and can cause delays when state troopers, USCG or federal agents show up dockside to serve papers to a yacht master who has arrived without Vessel Response Plans (NTVRP), Certificates of Financial Responsibility (COFR), pilotage exemptions, pilots, garbage purges, etc. As agents we try to keep our customers out of "Harms Way". Interpretation of the various regulations can differ from port to port, state to state, and USCG sector to USCG sector. This is where local yacht agents can be a valuable asset. It is our responsibility to let the yacht managers, owners and captains know what they have to do to cruise legally. Compliance with bureaucratic regulations is ultimately the responsibility of vessel owners and masters. Yacht Services of Alaska would like to thank Mark for taking the time to inform the yacht community of some of the regulatory dictums they will have to comply whren cruising the West Coast of Norht America.
