I’ve been in yachting for a couple of years now and pretty much have it pegged, it’s just a matter of manipulation, timing and networking. It’s who you impress and exaggerating what you do and know that gets you far in this business. Working hard is for losers, why work hard when you can take credit for other peoples work and use the same dumb fools as scapegoats if you make a fumble. I regularly employ discrete tactics to achieve full exposure with key people. Working where people can see you maximizes the potential of any job, always make sure you look good in front of the principal. Performing difficult tasks and achieving good results is pointless when nobody sees it, quiet achievers never get heard, therefore blowing your trumpet and promising the world to your captain and owner is the way to go if you want to be a player in this game. Always take note of your Captain and Owners likes, dislikes and habits. Pander to their needs and let them think you care about their wellbeing. Socialize with them every chance you get and be there 24/7 for odd jobs and meaningless tasks that nobody else will do. An hour’s extra graft for the right person is worth more than a month’s regular work. Getting to where I am today has taken less time than most, I am an arrogant brown noser that puts himself before everyone else 24/7.
